Great Grandpa:
I think this was one of my best portraits. It didn't get muddied with overwork. I kept trying portraits hoping to get good enough to paint pictures of Jesus with children. -- a strong muscular Jesus -- with a sleeping baby -- a smiling happy water splashing Jesus. I have more ideas but not enough courage or talent to do justice to it.
So I am working on this website instead that I might glorify Jesus.

Some of my relatives and friends have asked to see the copies of paintings I have done. I really did enjoy painting as a hobby. Sometimes the rushing pace of evangelistic programs and people problems can wear a person down and they need an exercise or hobby that is of a quiet nature to relax and rest a while. When I lived in Monterey CA a lady church member who was an artist told me I needed to attend a painting class once a week for my own health and she would pay the fees.
Monterey, Carmel, and Pacific Grove had many artists and art showings and it was an enjoyable time I met many nice people. Mrs North, a lovely English widow visited our class to show us how to frame our art work and I was introduced as a local pastor. She had some questions about what happened to a person when they die. We visited and she became interested in Bible studies and was baptized into our Pacific Grove Adventist Church. (That story is in my autobiography book, "UFO's, Angels and Stories of Faith and Courage."

This is Robby, and the painting I was working on when Mrs North visited our class. Later she gave me a golden frame much better than this website frame. Mrs. North attended the Central California Conference at Soquel camp grounds. She slept on a cot in a tent with our family and became a second grandma to our daughter. She went to the vegetarian cooking classes and all those other good things. We certainly missed her when we had to move away to another pastoral evangelistic assignment.
Robby's mom and dad were also babtized into the Pacific Grove church. When I gave Bible studies at their house, Their two little girls with long blond hair listened to my Bible stories. Then one day the mom said to me, "Robby is not a girl. He is a boy and we are going to cut his hair. So here you have it. A cute kid even without his long curly golden locks. |

Yosemite Falls is the highest measured waterfall in North America. Located in Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, it is a major attraction in the park, especially in late spring when the water flow is at its peak.
The total 2,420 ft from the top of the upper falls to the base of the lower falls qualifies Yosemite Falls as the sixth highest waterfall in the world.
The falls actually consist of three sections:
Upper Falls: The 1,430 ft plunge alone is among the twenty highest waterfalls in the world. Trails from the valley floor and down from other park areas outside the valley lead to both the top and base of Upper Yosemite Falls.
In 1967 I was the Park Ranger Chaplain or Pastor for a week or two. I had a cabin and Lori and Eddie stayed with me one time. We climbed all over the place. It was fun.
A short time after we were there a young camp guide we had enjoyed visiting with slipped on an icy rock, slid into the falls and fell to his death.

I took a picture of Eugene Sample and a hiker friend as they stopped to rest and gaze at the very white Nevada Falls above Vernal Falls. |

This is looking at Half-Dome from across the valley canyon and from on top of Glacier Point. It is late afternoon and the shadows are climbing up the granite walls.
The people in the valley will be gathering for the evening program that climaxes with the famous fire-fall, where burning timbers are pushed off of Glacier point.
A camp ranger through a megaphone cries out, "Let the Fire Fall!" And the fire seems to come from heaven in a glorious stream of red and it gradually ends like a finger pointing to the starry sky. |

This is Lori Graves in Hickory NC. She is examining one of our neighbor's concrete decorative deer. They looked so real Lori approached them very cautiously.

----------------------------------------------------- This pony was with a group of many North Carolina campers dressed in the 1850 style that were re-inacting the covered wagon train camp-outs.
There were over a dozen red wheeled covered wagons. There were other tents and wagons and many teams of horses.
There were a few milk cows.
There was one team of huge bulls about 6 feet high! They were used to pull one of the covered wagons.
--- And there was this pony. Its main was put into a pompadore wave that stood straight up. The red hair in the front hides the right ear. The white eyelash looks odd. I should not have painted it so realistically.
